The holiday is around the corner and for all its joys it can be pretty scary for your teeth. For most of us Halloween means candy and lots of it! However, when you consume sugary food or drinks, bacteria in the dental plaque on your teeth mix with the sugars in candy to make acid. This acid attacks your teeth enamel. If plaque isn’t removed every day by brushing and flossing, over time, the enamel gets softer and cavities may form. The damage to your teeth depends on how much sugar goes in your mouth and how long it stays there. In other words, the longer and more often sugar touches your teeth, the more damage occurs. So, make brushing and flossing immediately after trick-or-treating (or treating yourself to your kids’ yummy candy) your new Halloween tradition.
As we approach the end of the year, we would like to remind you that you should take full advantage of any remaining dental insurance benefits you may have for 2014 as they do not carry over and will expire on December 31. The way dental insurance benefits work is that you are provided a certain dollar amount of benefits each year. If you do not use those benefits, you lose them! Many of our patients do not realize this and let hundreds (or even thousands) of dollars worth of benefits go to waste. While dental health needs are never dictated by insurance, if you have any treatments that need to to be completed, or if you have any dental concerns at all, you need to visit our office before the end of the year.
We also would like to remind you that on Sunday, November 2 at 2:00 am Daylight Saving Time will be ending and we will transition back to Pacific Standard Time. Please remember to set your clocks one hour back before going to bed Saturday evening: for example, if the time is 10:00 pm, set the clock for 9:00 pm.
